maintenance jobs purportedly carried at the Taman Sri Gemilang and Seberang
Terus flats in Mergong, near Alor Setar, between 2010 and 2011 on flat units

for pipe replacements and ceiling fan installation worth RM14,740 were never
carried out or not completed and claims for after-repair clean-up worth
RM12,500 but turned out that the cleaning was carried out at only one house and
more than once.
Auditor-General’s
report state that five contractors appointed to carry out the maintenance jobs
at some of the flats were found to be related to each other and one of the
company “appeared to be unregistered” after conduct a company profile search
with the Companies Commission of Malaysia.
The
report also highlighted that “Based on a reply dated Feb 15, the commission
also confirmed that one of the five contractors was not listed in the company
registry records" and “A payment voucher worth RM500,000 was also given to
the contractor, who had used a bank account and registration number of a
different company”.
The
department also added that the contractors to be blacklisted from future state
government projects and payments are to be recovered for incomplete work. In addition
Kedah Housing Division managed to recover RM86,259 from the contractors through
the audit checks.
